Teamwork at Work
To be a leader is to know the importance of teamwork. A leader cannot complete every task by him or herself. To illustrate this point I had the Snackin’ Fresh Crew play a game, a paper stacking game.
Snackin’ Fresh members were broken into teams of 3 or more people and given a stack of papers.
Their objective: Stack the paper as high as possible.
The rules: You can only use the paper, no other items (no paper clips, no books, and no glue).
Helpful tip: USE TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION.
Some groups did excellent; they chose group roles and stuck to them. The highly effective groups said statements like “You can role the paper I’ll stack the papers.” For an example of teamwork look at the image I name it “The Mighty Tower.”The students took teamwork to an even greater level and stood as a wall of protection to block spies from other groups.
By realizing the importance of teamwork “The Mighty Tower” was accomplished. This skill will be very important for the Snackin’ Fresh leaders in the weeks to come. It will be the reason we accomplish our garden business and special projects. GO TEAM!

In a leadership meeting last week, a staff member suggested a really cool snacking option, KALE CHIPS. To our surprise many students said, “Eww what are Kale chips?!?!”
Answer: A delectable HEALTHY snack made from the leafy green vegetable Kale.
I’m a man of my word so if I say this snack is tasty believe it!
Below I have attached the recipe for kale chips because I know you want to try. Children don’t try to create the snack on your own, ask your parent for assistance.
How to Make Kale Chips:
Ingredients
• 1 head kale, washed and thoroughly dried
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• Sea salt, for sprinkling
Directions
Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F.
Remove the ribs from the kale and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Lay on a baking sheet and toss with the olive oil and salt. Bake until crisp, turning the leaves halfway through, about 20 minutes. Serve as finger food.
If a reader is curious enough to try this recipe, write me a response on how it tasted.
Hope you enjoy,
Greg

Your favorite club’s business program is back in action. That’s right, this summer you will be able to purchase your favorite veggies from the Snackin’ Fresh Crew. The crew leaders don’t rely solely on their adorable nature to sell veggies; they are serious young business men and women. Their business skills come from the help of the Enterprise Center.
This week the students learned the importance of research, types of research (quantitative vs. qualitative) and ways to record surveys. During the next couple of weeks we will use our new found skills to discover what our competition is selling, what our target customer likes and how much they will spend on vegetables. This information will help us develop our veggie business over the next couple of months, I’m excited and so are the Snackin’ Fresh Leaders

Today, some members of the Snackin’ Fresh Crew introduced “The Food Play” a play at Fairhill Elementary that represents everything the Snackin’ Fresh Crews stands for. The play was awesome; there was dancing, rapping, singing, and laughter. The play delivered nutrition information in a comical yet intelligent way. I believe they asked the BEST crew in the WORLD to introduce the play. The Snackin Fresh Crew Leaders spoke calmly, enthusiastically and with confidence. The highlight for me was hearing the students say “Eat apples not chips;” 10 minutes later during the play one of the actors said the exact same line. Are we good or are we good.
Great Job Snackin Fresh Crew Leaders, you all did great

Students of the Snackin’ Fresh Leadership Crew are known for snacking right but don’t forget that they are also leaders. This week they learned a valuable lesson in being a leader, and that lesson is STRATEGIC PLANNING. The crew has many projects they want to perform for their schools but it would be impossible without planning. During this week’s meeting they figured out the process to make their ideas come to life, a very important tool to have. For instance they know that before they can start these projects they must first receive permission from their principal. Everything must be done in order and the crew leaders know that. This quality will be used throughout the year on the many projects we plan, and it will definitely be used for our garden business. Knowing the process to complete a task is very important and that is a skill our Snackin’ Fresh Crew Leaders have.

This week every Snackin Fresh Garden was put to bed (hence this blog posts title). They all went night night; meaning we cleaned the gardens and pulled up some plants that wouldn’t survive winter’s cold. We found traces of kale, collard greens, carrots, tomatoes, sage and a whole lot more. It was a lovely day to put the gardens to bed everything went perfect, minus the moment I stepped in dog pooh (yuck).
While the gardens were going to bed I was stuck day dreaming, thinking about the hard work Snackin’ Fresh Crews put into the gardens. From choosing what to plant to selling the produce, crew members have done an amazing job with the garden. I am excited and curious to see what the crew members will decide to grow next season.
Until then, Night Night Gardens

This week two of our Snackin’ Fresh Leaders were interviewed by CRED magazine, and the students were AMAZING!! The magazine told us they were interested in youth that take leadership roles in their community, well who better to interview than the Snackin’ Fresh Leaders
. The students were asked a number of questions and they answered them greatly. My highlight was hearing the students say, “It’s important to eat healthy because children of today will be the first to have a shorter lifespan than their parents, due to things such as obesity and lack of exercise.” (Paraphrased just a smidget) My first thought… “WOW! These kids are amazing.” This year Snackin’ Fresh crews will aim to tackle those issues so make sure you read the blogs to remain updated on the students’ work.
PS. Keep it up Snackin’ Fresh Crews you’re all doing an awesome job!
Enjoy the weekend
