Project Coordinator, Philadelphia School Nutrition Program

The Food Trust is seeking energetic and committed individuals for full-time, entry level positions to implement our school-based nutrition education program. This is a unique opportunity to positively impact children's health by providing nutrition education and increased access to nutritious and affordable food in lower income communities. The Food Trust’s Nutrition Education Programs are funded by the USDA’s Food Stamp Program.

Responsibilities include:

PROGRAMMING: Coordinate activities and provide support to associates in the following areas.

  • Meet with associates on a weekly basis to assist in planning, scheduling and organizing supplies for weekly and monthly activities in schools
  • Assist in training associates at school sites and in office on lessons, professional development, markets, cost share collection, school-wide activities, G drive
  • Support associates in implementing programming in schools on a weekly basis through assisting with classroom lessons, school-wide activities, markets, professional developments, meetings, cost-share collection and delivery of materials
  • Provide feedback for Associates when needed on lessons, school wide events, markets (strategy, implementation, organizational, planning).
  • Assist manager in coordinating school wide events on a quarterly basis, including prepping materials, food order logistics, and training program for staff
  • Assist manger with other administrative duties for region, such as SDP calendar, Program Tracking, and cost-share reviews

ORGANIZATIONAL

  • Participate in school team and coordinator meetings on a weekly basis
  • Meet with manager on a weekly basis; give updates on region, identify programming areas of strength and trouble-shoot areas in need of improvement; communicate personnel areas of strength and areas in need of improvement
  • Complete and disseminate school team minutes on a weekly basis
  • Assist manager with agendas for school team meetings, run meetings when necessary
  • Assist manager with copy orders, market supply orders, food orders, expense reimbursements and scheduling material deliveries for region as needed or assigned
  • During summer work with associate director and manager to plan for the coming school year by assisting in lesson and activity planning, ordering materials, and packet revisions as needed

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree with course work in dietetics and/or nutrition. Ability to handle multiple priorities, organize time effectively, and work independently and as a team player. Strong oral, written and communication skills; bilingual is a plus. Interest in urban education and a desire to work with school-age children, school staff, and caregivers. Project Associate positions involve frequent travel throughout the Philadelphia region and require a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Controller

The Food Trust is an organization experiencing significant growth in the last several years.  We are in need of a controller who can take charge, make decisions and lead the team to meet the challenges of significant growth and respond to a dynamic environment with diverse revenue streams and ever changing program requirements.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Monthly financial reporting including statement of activities, statement of financial position, cash projections, forecasting and grant reporting. 
  • Supervision of the accounting staff and all accounting transactions including monthly allocations and maintenance of internal controls.
  • Coordination of annual audit including compliance to A-133 regulations, grants audits, tax filings including 990, BCO-10, BPT return, payroll returns of 941’s and W-2’s and 1099’s. 
  • Prepare annual budget for organization by grant, program and department. 
  • On demand responsibilities includes financial reports to grantors, review of program budgets and other miscellaneous reports necessary for creditors and other interested parties. 
  • Serve as a member of The Food Trust’s senior management and advise the Executive Director regarding the financial management of the organization
  • Attend Finance Committee and Board of Directors' meetings
  • Establish and maintain best practices for the accounting department. 

Qualifications:

  • Outstanding accounting and communication skills
  • Positive attitude and rofessional demeanor
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft excel and Peachtree or similar accounting package a must
  • Degree in accounting is required, CPA/MBA is desirable.
  • 10+ years accounting experience with 5-7+ years in management
  • Non-profit accounting or public experiences a plus, not required

Project Associate, Philadelphia School Nutrition Education Program

The Food Trust is seeking energetic and committed individuals for full-time, entry level positions to implement our USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed).  Educational objectives and curriculums are pre-approved and include such topics as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, healthy snacks and beverages and physical activity. 

The Project Associate serves as a nutrition educator in approximately 5 public schools throughout Philadelphia providing nutrition education on a variety of pre-approved topics in a variety of ways.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establish and foster relationships with teachers, nurses, principals and school staff
  • Provide nutrition education to students and caregivers to improve the overall health of the school community in the form of classroom lessons, school markets, school-wide events, and caregiver workshops
  • Train teachers to successfully integrate nutrition education into their classrooms
  • Collect documentation from teachers on an ongoing basis for program funding purposes
  • Deliver educational materials to schools

Qualifications:

Corner Store Intern, Healthy Corner Store Initiative

The Food Trust’s Healthy Corner Store Initiative (HCSI) seeks to increase the availability and awareness of healthy foods in corner stores through marketing, training and technical assistance to store owners, a healthy food identification campaign in corner stores, strategic investments in corner store layout to
increase store capacity to sell and market healthy items and education and marketing in schools near targeted corner stores. The initiative links corner store owners, community partners and local farmers and suppliers to create and sustain healthy corner stores.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with project manager, corner store owners and community partners to bring healthy foods to corner stores
  • Plan and implement sustainable strategies for bringing fresh produce and healthy snacks into corner stores
  • Assist in the identification of corner stores and carry out the outreach and recruitment of corner stores throughout Philadelphia
  • Implement a Healthy Foods Identification Campaign and train owners how to use fresh produce toolkits
  • Build relationships with corner store owners and communicate with owners to discuss project, ideas, and concerns.
  • Collect, enter and analyze corner store data.
  • Support project staff and assist with other corner store work as the need arises.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of fresh food retail and small business development preferred. Proficiency in Spanish or Korean is required (both written and verbal). An applicant pursuing an advanced degree is desirable but not required. Position involves frequent travel throughout the Philadelphia region and requires
a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. The ability to work with others in a collegial environment to implement the agency’s vision. Team building skills and the ability to encourage innovative thinking about problems, opportunities, and situations. Strong written and verbal communication
skills. Adept at forging strong relationships with key people inside and outside the agency.
