HYPE 2011 Youth Leadership Conference

The Food Trust hosted the Youth for Healthy Change Leadership Summit in October 2011 in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health as part of the City’s Get Healthy Philly initiative. Nearly 1,000 students in grades 6-12 participated in leadership development activities and created plans for how they can encourage healthy eating and physical activity at their schools. Over 170 schools across the district are participating in the Philadelphia Campaign for Healthier Schools and championing healthy initiatives such as healthy fundraisers, socialized recess, movement breaks, no junk food policies, non-food rewards in the classroom and walking clubs.
